On behalf of M.R.A. President Robert Broome and the M.R.A. delegates:

The Military Road Alliance met last month and heard from the two organizations whose tax initiatives are on the April 29th ballot. St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister addressed the Justice Center, and St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith addressed the parish Jail.

Early voting on these issues begins this coming Saturday, April 15, and runs through Saturday, April 22.

Several homeowner organizations in the general Military Road area have delegates to the M.R.A. After the presentations, the M.R.A. delegates voted by secret ballot, and below is the outcome of the vote.

The M.R.A. is presenting this as a public service, sharing with you the outcome of the vote on whether or not to support either or both of these initiatives.

Excerpt from the press release issued March 16, 2017, after the M.R.A. vote:

“. . . At the end of this presentation, with well over a super majority of M.R.A. member homeowner associations in attendance, the M.R.A. delegates voted to support both issues, each by approximately a 78% to 22% margin.
Those M.R.A. member homeowner associations present and voting included: Cross Gates, Doubloon Bayou Estates, French Branch Estates, Frenchmen’s Estates, Lake Village, the Landings, Magnolia Forest, the Old River Road Homeowners Association (Quail Ridge, Quail Valley, The Settlement, Paradise Point, and Bay Ridge), River Oaks and Turtle Creek.
M.R.A. designated delegates usually report back to their individual homeowner associations on matters taken up by the M.R.A. The Military Road Alliance, in continuous existence since 1979, now embraces over 5,000 residents in the area east of Slidell.

According to current M.R.A. president Robert Broome: “Both President Brister and Sheriff Smith ably presented the facts about these tax renewals and provided answers to all the questions from the audience. They stressed that they had heard and understood the concerns of the voters and had worked to make this new renewal request leaner and more focused on the priority needs of the Justice Center and the Parish Jail.”

While the M.R.A. does not take positions on individuals running for office, the M.R.A. by-laws do permit the body to vote on taking positions on ballot issues.”
